The ensemble was founded in 2009. It aims to preserve ethno-influenced Croatian musical heritage and impose new Croatian jazz “standards”. One of its goals is to produce an authentic sound characteristic for the region its members live in and create a recognizable Croatian brand.
The ensemble’s repertoire consists of original compositions and arrangements of well-known folk themes also often used in classical music (e.g. Gotovac - Ero, Bersa - Sunčana polja, Marjane, etc.).
Jazziana has performed throughout Croatia, in Zagreb, Rijeka, Vukovar, Koprivnica, Mali Lošinj, Grožnjan, Osijek, as well as abroad, in Vienna (Porgy and Bess), Budapest (Bartok Hall), Trieste (Teatro Verdi), Los Angeles (UCLA), Paris, Munich, etc. In May 2010, Aquarius Records published the ensemble’s first album "A Little Book of Notes", the review of which was written by the late Boško Petrović, a famous Croatian vibraphonist.
In May 2011, Jazziana won the most prestigious Croatian music award - Porin - for the best jazz composition, therewith confirming its quality and original style. The quality of Jazziana Croatica was once more recognized and confirmed as "Nehaj" was again nominated for Porin 2013 in all three jazz categories and won another one for the best jazz composition. “Nehaj” was a logical continuation of the path the ensemble decided to follow and was yet again inspired by Croatian folk themes and classical composers. The Croatian critics confirmed the ensemble’s status and recognized the value of "Nehaj" by describing one of the compositions (the one based on Bersa’s song "Seh duš dan") as "an anthological musical moment of Croatian jazz, as well as Croatian classical music”.
At the end of 2014, Jazziana’s third album “Jazziana Croatica Big Band” was published by Aquarius Records, was again nominated for Porin 2015 in all three jazz categories and won another one for the best jazz performance (for a composition “New Red Dwarf” recorded with Ernie Watts).
